Ahmed Randhawa Reveals How Viral ‘Banaspati Ishq’ Scene in Mitti De Baway Was Filmed

Pakistani actor Ahmed Randhawa has revealed the behind-the-scenes story of the viral “Banaspati Ishq” dialogue from Green Entertainment’s drama Mitti De Baway, explaining how an early-morning shoot in freezing weather produced one of the show’s most memorable moments.

During an appearance on Haute Talk with Aamna Isani, Ahmed shared details about filming the scene and admitted that the team had not expected the dialogue to become so popular. According to the actor, the sequence was shot at around 3 a.m., when the cast and crew were working in extremely cold conditions.

Ahmed plays Aslam Chanan, affectionately known as Achi, in the drama. He explained that the actors were primarily focused on performing the scene at the time rather than anticipating how viewers would respond after the episode aired.

The dialogue features Wahaj Ali, who portrays Iqbal Chanan, also known as Baala. In the story, Baala confronts his younger brother Achi about his romantic feelings for Nausheen, leading to the memorable exchange in which he describes those feelings as “Banaspati Ishq.”

The phrase, which became widely recognised among viewers, added an unexpected layer of humour to the interaction. The scene also includes the Punjabi expression “Laanti,” which Ahmed recalled as another moment that prompted laughter during filming.

Speaking about the shooting experience, Ahmed explained that the sequence was completed in a single take despite the difficult conditions. The late-night schedule and freezing temperatures made the filming experience particularly demanding for the cast and crew.

Wahaj Ali had also been working on an emotionally intense sequence, contributing to the atmosphere on set. Despite these challenges, the actors delivered a scene that would later attract considerable attention on social media.

The dialogue’s popularity became apparent only after the episode was released. Viewers began circulating clips, memes and edited videos featuring the phrase “Banaspati Ishq,” turning it into a widely shared reference in online conversations about romance and relationships.

The expression has been used humorously to describe feelings that appear superficial, artificial or lacking genuine emotional depth. Its distinctive wording and delivery helped the dialogue stand out among the many memorable moments from Pakistani television dramas.

The success of the scene also demonstrates how regional language and everyday expressions can connect with audiences in unexpected ways. The Punjabi phrasing, combined with the characters’ dynamic and the situation’s humour, helped the exchange reach viewers beyond the drama’s regular audience.

For Ahmed Randhawa, the unexpected popularity of the moment offers an example of how a scene that seems ordinary during production can develop a life of its own after reaching viewers. The cast may have been focused on completing a demanding shoot, but audiences found something entertaining and relatable in the dialogue.

Wahaj Ali’s portrayal of Baala and Ahmed’s performance as Achi contributed to the exchange that viewers continue to share online. Their on-screen interaction has become a talking point among fans discussing the drama’s characters and memorable dialogues.

The behind-the-scenes revelation has added another dimension to the conversation surrounding Mitti De Baway. It highlights the unpredictable nature of television entertainment, where a brief exchange filmed under challenging conditions can become a viral moment and enter everyday social media language.
