Megyn Kelly claims actress was “tricked” into wearing daring gown
Hollywood star Sydney Sweeney has found herself at the center of controversy following her appearance at the Variety Power of Women: Los Angeles event — where her bold, see-through silver gown turned heads and stirred debate online.
During Thursday’s episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, conservative commentator Megyn Kelly sharply criticized the Euphoria actress’s look, calling it “completely see-through” and “inappropriate” for the occasion.
“I object to this,” Kelly said on her show. “You can see her entire nipples. Her breasts are enormous and spectacular, but the look crossed the line.”
The former Fox News anchor went on to compare Sweeney’s daring red-carpet fashion to Kim Kardashian’s often-revealing style, arguing that “showing everything takes away the thing that’s actually sexiest — leaving a little to the imagination.”
“She may have been misled” — Kelly suggests stylists pushed the look
Kelly added that, while she considers herself a fan of Sweeney, the 28-year-old star may have been “tricked or pressured” into wearing the revealing dress.
“I think she might have been misled into it,” Kelly said. “Somebody probably brought her that dress and said, ‘Let’s take it to the next level,’ and she trusted the wrong person.”
Kelly recalled her own experience with stylized shoots, saying, “When I did a saucy photoshoot for GQ, my dress was just a slip — but I never showed anything close to areola.”
Sweeney unfazed amid controversy
Despite the uproar, Sweeney appeared confident and composed at the Los Angeles event, posing for photographers and mingling with fellow honorees Jamie Lee Curtis, Nicole Scherzinger, Wanda Sykes, and Kate Hudson.
The White Lotus star stunned in a glittering silver gown featuring a sheer bodice and elegant draping, complemented by her new platinum bob, soft-glam makeup, and nude-toned lips.
On the red carpet, she reflected on the upcoming end of Euphoria’s third season, saying:
“It’s going to be a really bittersweet moment. It’s been my entire twenties. They’ve been my family.”
From red carpets to baseball bleachers
Just a day before the Variety event, Sweeney went viral for a completely different reason — when fans spotted her cheerfully eating a hot dog at the 2025 World Series in Los Angeles. She attended the game alongside retired boxer Christy Martin, whom she will portray in the upcoming biopic Christy.
The 28-year-old also recently addressed cosmetic surgery rumors, telling Variety she’s “never gotten anything done.”
“I’m absolutely terrified of needles. No tattoos, nothing. I’m going to age gracefully,” Sweeney said.
“I dress for myself” — Sweeney responds with confidence
As the debate over her Variety look continues, Sweeney has maintained that she embraces self-expression through fashion.
“I hope I can inspire other women to be confident and flaunt what they’ve got,” she said in a recent interview. “You shouldn’t have to apologize or hide in any room.”
Whether hailed as a bold fashion moment or crossing the line, one thing is clear — Sydney Sweeney continues to command attention both on and off the screen, with confidence to match her star power.
