Veteran Pakistani actress and filmmaker Sangeeta has opened up about the removal of actress Naeema Butt from her upcoming film ‘Mukho’, stating that the decision was made due to what she described as unprofessional behavior during the early production phase.
In a recent interview, Sangeeta revealed that Naeema Butt was initially selected for an important role in the film and had also received an advance payment. However, according to the veteran filmmaker, the actress was later removed from the project after allegedly suggesting changes related to the film’s casting decisions.
Sangeeta claimed that Naeema began giving recommendations about selecting the lead actor and adding other names to the cast. She said she did not agree with this approach and decided to end the collaboration by asking the actress to return the advance payment.
The filmmaker explained that she has spent decades in Pakistan’s entertainment industry and believes creative decisions, particularly regarding casting, should remain under the director’s authority. She added that while Naeema Butt is a talented actress, she felt the working relationship was not suitable for the project.
Sangeeta further stated that the role offered to Naeema was significant and could have been a valuable opportunity, but the actress was removed because of what she considered an unacceptable attitude during the production process.
The comments quickly gained attention on social media, where users shared different opinions about the controversy. Some supported Sangeeta’s decision, arguing that experienced filmmakers should have the authority to make final creative choices. Others defended Naeema Butt, suggesting that sharing ideas and providing feedback should not necessarily be viewed as inappropriate behavior.
Several social media users questioned whether creative suggestions from actors should be considered interference or a normal part of collaboration in the entertainment industry. The discussion highlighted different perspectives on professionalism, communication, and creative input during film production.
Sangeeta, whose real name is Parveen Rizvi, is considered one of Pakistan’s most respected figures in the film industry. With a career spanning more than five decades, she has worked as an actress, producer, and director and has contributed to more than 120 films.
Known for her long-standing presence in Pakistani cinema, Sangeeta has played an important role in shaping the country’s entertainment landscape. Her upcoming directorial project ‘Mukho’ has already attracted attention due to her return behind the camera.
